Makasi
Makasi combines the odd and unlikely into well-crafted sounds, entertaining and amazing. From the clubs in Antwerp to the world stage. From Makasi’s beginnings in underground clubs in Antwerp and Amsterdam, to Tomorrowland, Tomorrowworld, Ultra, Miami Music Week, Sunburn, It’s The Ship, Balaton Sound, and beyond, the Belgian DJ/producer has shared the stage with heroes like Diplo, Martin Garrix, Black Coffee, Eran Hersh, N.e.r.d, 50 Cent, Will.i.am, and many more. Behind the decks he cuts an energetic figure, his peaktime sets feature short mixes and edits that cut up global house, EDM, and bass music.
A versatile DJ (he had his first set of turntables aged 8 years old) Makasi is at home playing a big room set on festival stages as he is in the club with a deeper Afro-house sound influenced by Black Coffee, Francis Mercier, Caiiro, Moblack and co. He comes complete with the same energy and passion for crossing genres, and explains it thus: “I don’t feel like I fit a particular music scene, I’ve always been a chameleon that can blend in anywhere”.
Inspired by the music of West African and Latin artists played at home during his childhood, Makasi has spent the last year producing a new body of work. His first release for 2024 is a collaboration with Asher Swissa entitled ‘Back Home’, released in April on New State Music. The team-up with Asher Swissa precedes the first track from his new multi-single deal, also with New State; which will see him following in the footsteps of label alumni including Tiesto, Roger Sanchez, Zero 7, Paul Oakenfold, and many more. These new tracks from Makasi will join a discography that includes ‘Dumski’ ‘King Of Kings’, ‘Dance With Me’ (both signed to Smash The House), and ‘Lucky’.
Over the past two years, Makasi has been dedicated to bringing his international concept, ISAKAMI, to the global stage alongside top-tier artists. From Antwerp to London, Bangkok, Bali, and beyond, the movement keeps growing. With new music on the way and a globally syndicated radio show, Supah Sessions, the next chapter of Makasi’s career is ready for takeoff.
